Americans abroad. Roy and Jessie finished a volunteer stint in China. He loves trains, so they go home via the Trans-Siberia Express. There are strains in the relationship, including her past. They meet Carlos, a Spaniard, traveling with Abby, a young American. Carlos keeps close to Jessie, and when Roy is left behind and waits a day for the next train so he can catch up, Jessie and Carlos take a trip into the dead of winter to photograph a ruined church. Carlos may be running drugs, so, later, when Roy catches up and introduces Jessie to his new pal, an English speaking Russian narcotics detective, he's the last person Jessie wants to see. The Reviews for Transsiberian (2008) 720p

Predictable and boring.Reviewed bySara SeligmanVote: 3/10

The first scene makes you believe that you are about to see an interesting thriller! (hahaha, you fool!)

With a slow and Boring start this movie dragged on through the first act revolving around the relationship of Jesse and Roy, nothing special just a boring drama with nothing new to show. That is until the second act, when suddenly you can make a choice weather to laugh or get angry at the ridiculous yet predictable "plot twists" that might surprise a 3 year old, but that's about it! The level of predictability, and unrealism is what completely made me loose interest and disconnect with the story.

The character of Jesse was absolutely neurotic and stupid in such an extreme that as an audience I stopped caring about what would happen to her.

The use of flashbacks was completely unnecessary, showing something you had already seen, it just gave the feeling that the director was unsure of the audience's capability of understanding the story... (it was extremely annoying)

As if that was not enough, it was offensive towards Russia showing stereotypical judgment, and supporting the "America rules", "Americans are always the good guys" attitude.

Don't think too muchReviewed byplamya-1Vote: 5/10

If you believe Americans deserve a happy ending because even if they're stupid, they're true believers, and they're on the right side of moral values-- then you can stomach the twists and turns of the plot. After all, it started off with potential. It's got honest-to-goodness Russian scenery on a real Russian train. Yes, there probably is international narcobusiness on the Transsiberian, corrupt police, rude conductors. But it's all a bit over the top.

There are very good actors. Ben Kingsley is above reproach. Woody Harrelson is right on target as an oafish Iowan abroad. But why would his wife spill out her story to a stranger on a train if it were not that the screenplay needed enough back-story for an implausible relationship? And isn't it suspicious that the Spanish hunk is the evil tempter, ergo the only character responsible for his misdeeds? And violent torture is the specialty of the Russian mob, so even when they realize they're dealing with mere dupes, they must literally extract their pound of flesh?

I had heard little about this film before watching it, apart from thecast that included the wonderful Ben Kingsley as well as Emily Mortimerand Woody Harrelson. Who each added a great depth to their respectivecharacters making for compelling viewing. The blend of great actors andnatural dialogue makes for an emotive and visceral experience.

Brad Anderson has made a well paced thriller that explores the vastemptiness and deprived parts of Russia, and at the same time incontrast capturing the beautiful scenic landscape, as the charactersdelve deeper into the twisting roads of the narrative. Other than TheMachinist (2004) I was unfamiliar with his work but will probablylookout for upcoming features as he has shown great competency in boththe writing and direction of this film. Balancing the dramatic aspectsof the narrative with the overall film.

The most important thing to note is that it is an independentlyproduced film, which means it is free from the constraints of themainstream but unfortunately this may mean that it falls through thenet as independent films are often unable to compete with the marketingcapacity of studio productions. As a result this film will probably notreceive a nation wide release across UK cinemas, which is a shame.

This film is great watch with a solid narrative structure and withhonest performances from all actors involved, hopefully you'll findTranssiberian a worthwhile watch as I did.
